Learn to treat a casualty the way a military medic would

This course covers all of the content in the Basic Training plus a lot more.

Individuals will learn the fundamental skills of a military medic:

• Life threatening bleed control

• Airway management

• Further treatment for casualties who have suffered massive blood loss

• How to manage multiple casualties

• Effective communication systems

​

This training draws on decades of military experience. It takes everything the UK Armed Forces Medical Services has learned through conflict and applies it to the civilian world, so whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced medical practitioner, you will still be able to learn something new. It is excellent CPD for current First Aid Practitioners or Instructors, but you do not need to have attended any First Aid training prior to attending this course.​

We prioritise simplicity and efficiency to ensure individuals are able to use the skills they have learned in high stress scenario's. The information is kept up to date with the latest guidelines in the UK.

• Safely approach a casualty using the HD approach

• How to identify a catastrophic bleed

• Treat a casualty following the 'care under fire' principle

• How to use all the equipment in the Bleeder Bag

• Triage multiple casualties and treat in the correct order

• Convey relevant and accurate information to emergency services and medical professionals

This course covers a range of topics, including:

Step 1: Approaching a casualty

• Learn how to remain calm under pressure

• The HD approach, a similar system as used by UK Armed Forces to ensure nothing is forgotten.​

Step 2: Treating a casualty

• Learn how to identify a catastrophic bleed

• Learn the military principle of 'care under fire' ensuring injuries that will kill the casualty quickest are dealt with in order of severity.

• Learn basic anatomy and how to break the body into 'sections' to easily identify your treatment pathway.​

• Learn how to further improve your casualties chance of survival once you have stopped a bleed and secured an airway

2a: Catastrophic bleeds

• Learn the fundamental principles behind stopping a bleed allowing you to improvise where necessary

• Learn how manufactured tourniquet's work and how to use them

• Learn how haemostatic gauze works and how to wound pack

• Learn how to pressure dress a wound with an emergency bandage​

2b: Airway management

• Learn simplified categories for airway management to easily allow you to identify your treatment pathway

• Learn how to treat a choking casualty

• Learn how to treat an unconscious casualty with a compromised airway

Section 3: Triage made easy

• Learn a simplified yet highly efficient system for triage which follows the 'care under fire' principle

• No complicated algorithms to follow, just an efficient & easy to remember solution

• Learn who to treat first if you are presented with multiple casualties at once

Section 4: Communication

• An often overlooked skill of utmost importance

• Learn a similar system to how the Armed Forces communicate

• This allows clear communication without consuming your mental bandwidth, leaving you to focus on treating casualties while still ensuring relevant & accurate information is conveyed.
